Nchima “Andy” Kapoma, MFA MSc
LEAD DEVELOPER
UNISTAT CANADA INC, UNION STATION AMERICA LLC
Andy Kapoma is a systems-minded developer, game designer, and backend engineer whose decade of experience spans software development, digital health, artificial intelligence, and immersive media. With dual graduate degrees—an MFA from NYU’s prestigious Game Center and an MSc in Interactive Technology from Carnegie Mellon University—Andy brings deep technical knowledge paired with design sensibility, making him the ideal architect for Union Station’s platform.
His career spans multiple continents, from North America to Africa, where he developed large-scale data systems for health research networks and commercial software platforms. Andy led engineering teams at DotCom Zambia and Smartcare, managing back-end infrastructure, scaling databases, building REST APIs, and serving hundreds of thousands of users across critical digital health and transport sectors. His ability to synthesize complex systems into user-friendly experiences has defined his engineering style across every project.
Andy’s interdisciplinary background makes him uniquely suited to build Union Station’s modular, intuitive, and scalable booking platform. Having worked in artificial intelligence, backend infrastructure, analytics pipelines, and creative game mechanics, he understands how to balance performance, logic, and human experience. His development process is hands-on and holistic—designing both what the system does and how people feel using it.
Andy met Allyson MacIvor in New York City in 2021, and the two began sketching out the foundations of Union Station. He became the first full-time developer on the project, writing code while finishing his graduate program at NYU. With limited funding, Andy helped bootstrap the early platform from scratch, managing integrations, leading product sprints, and laying the groundwork for scalability. His work has been instrumental in translating Union Station’s vision into a working reality.
Investors view Andy not only as a technically gifted engineer but also as a founding technologist with vision and endurance. He understands the music ecosystem’s fragmentation and has engineered a platform that bridges artists, venues, and managers through automation and intelligent matchmaking. His ability to build secure, scalable systems with empathy for the user experience positions him as a vital pillar of Union Station’s founding team.
